RADLEY COLLEGE CHAPEL NEARING COMPLETION
Northcot Brick are renowned for being able to produce non standard special shapes and we were delighted to be approached to supply around 80 different bespoke special shapes for this prestigious project. Founded in 1847 by an Anglican priest, Radley College in Oxford is an exclusive all-boys school. The construction work started on the Grade II listed chapel at Radley in October 2019 and the project is due to be completed by the end of 2020.

Designed by Purcell Architects, the extension to the chapel saw the introduction of an octagonal shaped masterpiece to the East end providing a greater focus on the sanctuary and additional seating in the nave. The timber framed structure was supplied by Carpenter Oak. We knew it would be challenging as we haven’t taken on a project of such complexity before but our team of master craftsmen worked together to ensure that every stage of the production process was approached with extra sensitivity and the end result will be something quite magnificent.

NORTHCOT ON SHOW AT ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CENTRE

A new Architectural Design Centre in Clerkenwell has just opened. Designed by Stirling Prize winners AHMM, we are pleased that a number of our special shapes have been incorporated into the design by means of a stunning feature wall. The centre can be found at 38-42 John Street, EC1M 4DL

THE HB ALLEN CENTRE, KEBLE COLLEGE, OXFORD

The recently completed HB Allen Centre for Keble College in Oxford boasts top quality student accommodation, a learning centre, seminar rooms, an exhibition space and café. The original Grade II Listed Acland House sits at the heart of the Quadrangle and forms a central part of the new HB Allen Centre. Shortly after the launch of our new yellow handmade range, we were asked if they could be made in 40mm, to which the answer was “yes”. And so, the story began………

We were pleased to welcome the Keble Team from MICA Architects to the factory along with the steering group from Keble College and Peter Jones from Bam Construction. They took a tour and each made their own Acland Handmade Brick. We produced the Acland Handmade in three bespoke sizes and in total, supplied around 300,000 bricks to the project. We also manufactured a number of large saddleback copings to top the boundary wall. The brick fits in effortlessly and the colour is typical of Oxfordshire buildings.

'I’ve seen the bricks! Indeed, now I’ve made one of the bricks! A great privilege and a great pleasure. You are clearly very proud of what Northcot does, and clearly have every reason to be very proud. A great product, a great team and a great story. We’re not just any Oxford college, we’re Oxford’s pre-eminent brick college. We too have a great story, and I’m delighted that Northcot is now part of it.'
